EP Review: Alive in Barcelona – Flatline (Smart Punk Records)
Heavy rockers Alive in Barcelona will release their new EP, Flatline, on November 4th, 2022 via Smart Punk Records. A record that embodies the band’s mission statement:
To inspire hope in those that have none.
What we have here is an EP that leaves an impression in a short amount of time. Three tracks, three examples of heartfelt and dramatic heavy rock with moments of metal explosivity. Notable from the start with the fiery Parasite. A track that oozes emotion but also has enough groove and intensity to make the body move.
Following that, it’s Asphyxiate and a track that features starry melody, and pithy, hard-hitting rock groove. A track that hits a higher gear impressively, roaring with metal power and bringing a chorus that helps turn this track into one hell of an anthem. The crashing and banging of instruments much more robust than initially expected and the vocals showing off an impressive amount of range.
Finally, it’s Decay and the EP’s most infectious and moody sounding track. The poppier elements of Alive in Barcelona make it catchy even if the melodrama and lyrical content are rooted in a darker subject matter.
It’s over way too fast but it really does leave an impact. A quality EP from a band clearly on the rise.
