Album Review: Burden Limbs – It Can Never Be Satisfied (Glasshouse Records)
Burden Limbs are 6-piece noise/jank unit from London, returning to Glasshouse Records with their debut album ‘It Can Never Be Satisfied’. It will be released on August 26th, 2022.
Misery loves company and Burden Limbs aren’t asking you to join them, they’re grabbing you by the hair and dragging you into the darkness.
The bleakness of this album is enhanced by both atmosphere and chaotic noise, elements that Burden Limbs make their own. It Can Never Be Satisfied might be 2022’s most unique sounding record. Although with that, it can also be called one of 2022’s likely to be polarising listens too.
Why? Simply because it is so harsh, so uncouth, so raw and so atmospheric. Though not in the airy, comfortable and freeing manner. Rather, the music that emanates from this record is cloying, choking and tension-heavy. A truly uncomfortable experience that you just want to end. All so you can press repeat and sink into the mire again.
Yet, while these might sound like negative words, they’re not. It Can Never Be Satisfied is an experience that is utterly compelling. At times, haunting and at others, enlightening. The ‘noise’ aspect of Burden Limbs is where the heaviness comes from but it’s not exclusively where the weight is pressed. The level of atmosphere that runs through the album is as fascinating as the fuzz, feedback and clamour of instrumental noise Burden Limbs creates. Elements like the echo the vocals have, enhance the experience to a gobsmacking degree.
Listen. Experience. Make up your own mind. Maybe it can be satisfied.
