EP Review: Aniimalia – Pressure Points (Marshall Records)
Aniimalia are a heavy alternative rock band based in south-west England. Forming in 2020 at the height of the global pandemic the band have since released 3 singles, performed with the likes of Area 11, Kris Barras Band, and Virginmarys across the UK and have more recently won the Kerrang! ‘The Deal’ competition, which has seen them signed to Marshall Records to work on a new EP with Romesh Dodangoda and perform at Download Festival 2022.
This EP, ‘Pressure Points’ will be released on August 19th, 2022.
What a journey it has been so far for this new band and with Pressure Points, there’s no disputing that their future is stupidly bright.
Showcasing five tracks of imaginative, energetic and hypnotic alt-rock with a heavier touch, Aniimalia deliver anthems here. Exploding into life with the brash rock groove of Alien, where a lightning strike of a chorus proves to be the cherry on top.
Heart and soul is the name of the game with the foot-tapper that is Silver Linings, Aniimalia really showing how to make short and snappy tracks sound immense. Before a combination of fiery riffs and melodramatic vocals makes False Enemy another to remember, and D.O.A. goes hard and heavy in Aniimalia’s impressive anthemic way. Tracks you rock out too, tracks you move too, and tracks you appreciate for how much appeal they will have.
Case in point? The massive finale of Haywire that begins with thick bass, kicks into a higher gear, before varying the tempo into something smoother sounding. Again, the chorus is massive and the riffs stick in the mind.
Aniimalia worked hard to get to this point and the payoff is going to catapult them into the stratosphere. Don’t be surprised if everyone is talking about this band over the next couple of years.
