Bloodstock 2022 Band Feature: I Fight Bears

Bloodstock Open Air 2022 takes place from August 11th and August 14th with a line-up that might be one of the best the festival has ever put on. A wide array of rock and metal acts spread across four stages, it’s looking likely to be a weekend not to be missed. Pick up tickets here.

One of our personal most anticipated bands of the weekend, I Fight Bears have scratched and clawed their way to the position they find themselves in. Coming out of the gates very hot, with a brutish style of metalcore, their self-titled debut album in 2018 really turned a lot of heads. The band were hot, gaining the attention of the mainstream metal press and knocking crowd’s dead with a ton of strong live performances.

The path this band was on, seemed clear, but I Fight Bears were only getting started and, after a long and drawn-out pandemic period, returned with their new EP ‘Liberosis’. Not only a triumphant return but I Fight Bears declaring that they weren’t quite the same band they were before. That they had matured and evolved and were finally ready to show the world just who I Fight Bears was. You can read our review here.

No longer ‘just’ a metalcore band, the group’s style resulted in something that was both interesting and exciting. Even if, as we described it, it still:

Bristled with energy and intensity.

Never planning, let alone expecting to win the South Wales Metal 2 the Masses, I Fight Bears entered the competition to promote the new EP. The band’s quality shone through and they stormed their way to the final, going on to win the entire thing and book their place at the festival.

Unmissable. I Fight Bears are an unmissable band on the Bloodstock line-up. Playing the Friday of the festival on the New Blood stage. We can’t wait, and neither can the band. We asked them what it meant to be playing the festival and what fans can expect from their show. They had this to say:

It’s a truly surreal experience for us. Any of the bands that played the M2TM final (and many that got knocked out even earlier!) could have won it on another day. Just the right place and right time for us it seems! We don’t consider ourselves ‘winners’ in the traditional sense. We are the chosen representatives of the exceptional South Wales Metal community, and we hope to do everyone proud.
