A lot of bands on the New Blood stage this year can proudly wear a tag that reads ‘one of the UK’s most hardworking bands’. However, Catalysis define what that means. Having formed in 2016, the Scottish death/thrash/groove-metal 5-piece haven’t stopped.

A demo and EP in 2017, following that up with a self-titled EP in 2018, before dropping their debut full-length in 2020. Called ‘Connection Lost’, this was a real statement of intent from this band and turned a lot of heads… including ours.

We reviewed it and said:

That it has the meanest of death metal groove running through it like a bulbous vein. Filled with tracks that call to the angry metal head in all of us.

They would then keep the momentum going as the world ground to a halt. Releasing another two EPs in 2021 and 2022. First it was the Relicta EP, which we described as:

The shit that causes carnage in the pit and is guaranteed to get even the most indifferent of metal fans head-banging along.

Then, the Innova EP which we described as having:

A meaty sound that makes you gnash your teeth through sheer head-banging joy.

All of this while touring constantly and consistently and developing their sound to expand upon the death-groove they do so well. Introducing more melody and refining their sound. Catalysis are aiming high and so far, they are sticking every single landing. Which means their arrival at Bloodstock was inevitable, yet they still worked for it. Taking part and winning the Scottish Metal 2 the Masses.

Playing the Friday of the festival on the New Blood stage, Catalysis are a band not to be missed. When asked about what it means to be playing the festival and what fans can expect, they had this to say:

Playing Bloodstock is not just exciting for us, it’s a privilege and an honour to appear alongside such a huge lineup with so many acts of huge pedigree.

It feels like a culmination of all the hard work we’ve put into the band over the past few years, and it’s amazing to feel like that hard work is finally paying off.

If you’re checking out Catalysis at Bloodstock, expect riffs, riffs and more riffs. We bring a lot of groove and thrash influences and mix them with a touch of death metal to create something exciting and energetic on the live stage. See you there!
