Bloodstock 2022 Band Feature: Basement Torture Killings

Bloodstock Open Air 2022 takes place from August 11th and August 14th with a line-up that might be one of the best the festival has ever put on. A wide array of rock and metal acts spread across four stages, it’s looking likely to be a weekend not to be missed. Pick up tickets here.

Is there a more important slot on the Bloodstock line-up then the slot that goes to the very first band playing? Well, obviously there is but the one granted to Basement Torture Killings is still damn important. They will be the opening band of Bloodstock 2022 and the blood is guaranteed to flow.

Basement Torture Killings (or BTK for short) have been rampaging around the UK and European underground since 2007. Everywhere they have gone, the bodies have piled up. Playing a style that they call ‘serial killing snuff grind’, the four-piece have served up plenty of sickening aural vomit to date. A demo, several splits and four albums, with the latest arriving in 2020.

That album was called ‘Lessons in Murder’ and saw Basement Torture Killings really stepping up their game while still sounding intensely raw and horrifying. It was an album we enjoyed, describing it as:

A blood-splattered mush of grind, gore and death metal. A horrifying yet evilly pleasing record.

This is not music for the faint of heart and certainly isn’t for everyone, yet the experience of Basement Torture Killings is something that everyone should try, even if it’s only once because of how it turns your stomach. Although, considering how hard-working they are, if you’re a regular purveyor of filth in the underground scene, you’ve probably had a brush with death already.

We know, we’ve seen the band perform as recently as late 2021 and described it as:

Ritual slaughter that is as captivating as it is horrifying, Basement Torture Killings arrive covered in blood and leave with even more.

Being the first band on the Sophie Lancaster stage on the Thursday of the festival seems like a just-reward for this band. A band who have turned aural lessons in murder into something both appealing and off-putting in equal measures. It’s going to be an incredible show, but don’t take our word for it. We spoke to one of the psychopaths within the band, guitarist and vocalist, Tarquin. He had this to say:

We are thrilled to be opening this year’s Bloodstock festival with a live Lesson in Murder lecture. We celebrate our 15th year as a band this year and to be able to celebrate that on such a big stage is going to be really awesome.

There will be blood, slaughtered teddy bears, furious old school death grind and murder most foul. Beyond that we are preparing a really special surprise for everyone, as much as we recognise that for many people this will be the first times of witnessing our crimes we also know that there will be lots of long term BTK devotees and we want to do something that will make the show extra special for them.
