Band Interview: The Grym Sins
Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life are pleased to bring you an interview with groove rock band, The Grym Sins.
1. How did you get started as a band?
(Lane Cutright – vocals/guitar): We originally started off as a cover band after Billy, our guitarist, and I splintered off from a previous band. From there, we picked up Daniel, our bassist, and started out playing covers in bars. Most recently, our drummer John joined, and we really started getting into the music we write. Now we’re working on a debut EP, and sharing our music with the world!
2. How would you describe your sound?
We’re all groove! We enjoy a nice groovy riff, and we try to put as much in our songs as possible. We like to mix early 70s rock with 90s grunge, as a lot of our influences come from those eras.
3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
To name a few: grunge legends like Soungarden, Alice in Chains, and Stone Temple Pilots, old classics like Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, and even modern bands like Rival Sons, Dirty Honey, and Crobot.
4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?
Online platforms have helped us immensely in getting started as a band. Our first two singles hit streaming platforms last year, and it’s really helped put our music out there.
5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
I personally enjoy travelling even when we aren’t on the road. Billy enjoys gulfing quite a bit, and Daniel works another job while he’s rockin’ out with us. John enjoys his fair share of boxing, which makes for some interesting moments.
6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?
With the release of our new single, “Golden Headstone”, we’re planning out a full EP release later this summer. Our self-titled debut EP is set to release on July 8 on all streaming platforms and on CD. After that, we’re planning on going on tour to share our sounds with the rest of the world! We’re extremely excited for this summer, and we’re hoping that people will come out and see us on the road!
