Horror Short Review: Thirsty (2022)

Writer, director, editor and so much more, Alex Magaña is a name synonymous with horror shorts and once again, he appears in these weekly reviews. This time with Thirsty, a horror short that comes in at a little over two and a half minutes.

Thirsty but not in the ‘needs a drink of water’ kind of way. Michael Glauser plays the boyfriend who has just been caught liking and inappropriately commenting on another girl’s Instagram photos by his girlfriend (Esther Lane Montes).

He tries to play it off as joke, which causes his girlfriend to laugh manically before declaring that he is thirsty and poking his nose. This seems to trigger something as the lights flicker and the boyfriend starts to cough as though his throat is really dry.

He goes to get a bottle of water but finds he can’t drink. The water won’t leave the bottle when he holds it up to his mouth. Even the tap water stops running the moment he tries to drink from it.

What’s going on? Check it out below to find out.

Thirsty suffers from one major problem and that is familiarity. Alex Magaña churns out shorts at an inordinate rate and they all have a similar look and feel. This is no different and that does make it feel a little stale.

Not only that, we’ve seen better from Alex Magaña as this one doesn’t really have a satisfying conclusion.
