EP Review: The Motion Below – Breakthrough (Self Released)

Melbourne metalcore outfit, The Motion Below will release their brand-new ‘Breakthrough’ EP on Friday July 8th, 2022.

One listen to the opening pair of What Doesn’t Kill You and Who I Am and most will understand exactly where the appeal of The Motion Below comes from. We’re talking about a band utilising all the modern metalcore tricks in the book but providing enough of their own spin to make it sound more than just the sum of its parts.

Deeply passionate, movingly melodic, fierce, and intense when needing to be, the first part of the EP gets the blood well and truly pumping.

The second part sees The Motion Below push on by delivering a massive and detailed metalcore anthem in the form of Fade. Before going nuclear with the explosive No Escape. Two different examples of what The Motion Below are capable of but also two examples of how their brand of metalcore is wholly interesting.

Something that doesn’t diminish with the third part and the tracks It’s All the Same and Hear Me. Two more forceful and fervent displays from a band adept at creating feeling amongst the chaotic sound of metal. The love for this band makes so much sense now.
