Band Interview: Hollow Front

Grand Rapids metalcore up ‘n’ comers Hollow Front’s third album ‘The Price of Dreaming’ was released on the 27th of May 2022 via UNFD. An album we described in our review as:

Metalcore infused with more passion and believability than most. Intense, heavy, pretty and melodic. It’s metalcore, but it’s also great metalcore.

You can read our full review here. A little before the album released, we chatted to vocalist Tyler Tate and you can read that interview below.

Hello Hollow Front. Are you all well and feeling ready for the unleashing of the new album?

We are so ready. We’ve been sitting on this album for a while now. And it feels amazing that it’s finally coming out for the world to hear.

How have you found the response to what has been released so far? It seems to be universally positive.

It’s been really nice seeing all of the positive comments and interactions we’ve been getting from the new singles. We really put our hearts on our sleeves when releasing music and we’re just so grateful that our fan base continues to grow and that they’re loving what we’re doing.

Considering the difficulties of the past few years, are you encouraged by the desire from your fanbase to hear ‘The Price of Dreaming’?

Absolutely! The fact that we have a fan base at all, and a super supportive one at that, is inspiring; and for them to be so excited about what we have to say with our music, really makes our hearts full and drives us to continue moving forward on this musical path. Without our fans we wouldn’t have any of what we’ve achieved, we truly believe that. So we can’t wait for them to hear what we’ve done with this new record. We can only hope they will love it as much as we do.

How much of the past few years influenced the creation of the new album? No-one wants to put out a ‘COVID’ album so to speak but there’s no denying the influence such a horrendous period has had.

I think it’s undeniable that COVID has had an impact on us and our new record. A lot of the events and the bad feelings that surround those times definitely helped shape what we had to say with The Price of Dreaming. But I think we took what was a really trying period in our lives, due to the fact we couldn’t tour or play shows, and turned it into something positive, which resulted in what we believe to be the best album we’ve produced thus far.

Do you feel as though Hollow Front have come out the other side stronger than ever and what, if anything, helped you through the tougher periods?

We’ve unquestionably come out stronger. I believe it was the hope that touring would come back eventually and being sidelined because of the pandemic was just a minor set back in the grand scheme of our musical careers. We just worked hard and wrote this new album, kept putting forth our best effort, l and it truly helped us stay in the sights of our fan base, while gaining new fans with the material we’ve released throughout these tough times for the world.

What’s different with Hollow Front this time round?

I would say Hollow Front is more mature and focused on growing as songwriters. We’re less focused on writing heavy songs populated with breakdowns and more focused on writing actual songs that make the listener feel something

From an outside perspective you seem to be growing in confidence when it comes to opening up. Is that an aspect you are getting more comfortable with and were you very much united on what you wanted to say here?

Being authentic is one of our biggest priorities as a band, and really always has been. We’ve never had an issue with opening up and displaying our feelings on our songs. I think the success we’ve seen, and the support we’ve received from our fans, has only strengthened our desire to write the best records that we can. And I truly believe this new record has done that.

Sum up the album, from your perspective, in just three words.

Modern Classic Metalcore.
