Horror Short Review: Adéla (2021)

Dark Matters Presents Adéla, a horror short that has way more heart and soul than you might initially expect. In fact, it’s downright touching, while being suitably horrific.

Written & directed by Philip Martin, and starring Julia Rogers, Ged Purvis and Chris Iddon. Adéla delivers a voiceover describing her brother as a bad man, a man whose soul the devil can’t even claim.

We see his man, Jacek, as he meets an addict on the streets of Manchester and takes him to where he will supply him with drugs. The addict is jittery and Jacek’s calm and imposing demeanour makes him even more nervous. However, the lure of drugs is enough for him to follow Jacek to an isolated house where he is then introduced Adéla.

To say anymore would spoil what is a fantastic horror short with a twisted ending. An ending that shows the bond between brother and sister in suitably bloody fashion. You’ll want to know so much more about these characters while marvelling at the atmosphere it creates.

It really shouldn’t be as affectionate as it is but through a combination of great acting and great music, you’ll end up feeling quite warm inside.

It’s brilliant. Check it out below.
