Album Review: Upon A Burning Body – Fury (Seek & Strike)
Upon A Burning Body return with much-anticipated full-length album, Fury. Out on May 6th via Seek & Strike. This new effort is aptly titled and is the band’s most ferocious offering of their storied career. It continues in the vein of Southern Hostility and showcases the band refining their signature sound with an added layer of heaviness.
Ruben Alvarez (guitars) states:
After listening to the complete album, we knew we had created something that represents what the band stands for on and off stage. Fury is a whole new monster. We’ve always been a band that experiments and Fury is definitely the stamp we needed on our own signature sound. We brought in elements from our first three albums and mixed them with our last two. If you like the heavy rifts from Red, White and Green or the groove of Southern Hostility, then you are going to be stoked on this!
Upon A Burning Body has been through a lot of changes throughout the years and we have come full circle back to our roots. We are ready to keep pushing forward on our albums and live performances. Fury is definitely a huge step for us to show the world that we are here to stay and American Heavy Metal is alive and stronger than ever!
Reenergised and raring to go, Upon A Burning Body are back and in blistering form on this album. A hefty slab of everything this band does well, from the pure heavy antagonism and belligerence, to the body-shaking and head-banging groove. This one kicks some serious ass and long-term fans will eat it up. Even if it’s not exactly the most forward-thinking album the band have ever put out.
Who cares though, when what is on offer is 11 tracks of savage stompery! Upon A Burning Body are impressively in sync here and their renewed passion and drive shines through strongly. As they drag us kicking and screaming into the pit with A New Responsibility, Snake Eyes and Shapeshifter. Chances are, these first 3 tracks, will leave many a listener with neckache already.
Does it get any less painfully thrilling? Of course not! Upon A Burning Body spitting up blood with the ferocious Meltdown. One of the best tracks on the album because of the groovy and circle-pit inducing heaviness.
Thunderheart is the first proper shift in tone as the band showcase strong clean vocals and throw out a blistering guitar solo. Something that makes Kill the Ego stand out too. Before Clarity and Who Am I wreck everything, with the short melodic intermission of Sweet Serenity jammed in between to allow a breather.
Upon A Burning Body are on the home stretch now and still unwilling to compromise on what they were aiming for with this album. The final two tracks: Code of Honor and Humbling My Skin are as ballsy and brutish as everything that came before. The former does feature some of wonderfully soaring clean vocals in the chorus. While the latter is pure punching and kicking metal power, with the band getting down dirty before exploding in ear-bleeding style.
Good to have you back, Upon A Burning Body.
