EP Review: Repressed – Chapters of Dissimulation (Self Released)
Repressed – was founded as a two-man project in summer 2018 by Enrico Michaelis and Julian Göttlich. After some minor changes the final line-up was completed with Emanuel Oropesa (GoblinClit) joining as second guitar player, Nick Meyer (Psydeath, Impending Mindfuck) on drums and Thorben Spindler (Where Vultures) on the low strings.
Repressed play a blend of slam and hardcore, the latter influence being found especially in the lyrics. They released the EP ‘Desist’ in February 2020 and now return with their new 2-track EP ‘Chapters of Dissimulation’. It will be released on April 29th, 2022.
A meaty sound that comes with some gurning and grunting. Repressed showcasing a filthy and aggressive side of slam layered with hardcore intensity and fire. The two tracks that makes up this EP come with some serious weight. Repressed delivering a snarling and blood-thirsty showcase of heaviness that just begs to be head-banged to.
What’s quite interesting, is the more methodical and measured approach that Repressed take. This isn’t constantly wild sounding, it’s more that it’s got an inherent danger that builds to explosions of chaos. Allies’ breakdown for example, is the stuff nightmares are made of. Even No Excuses which is far shorter, has this approach and it helps make Repressed stand out.
If that’s not enough, rest assured that at its core this is an EP of grubby, stompy and garish slamming metal.
