Album Review: Saviour – Shine & Fade (Greyscale Records)

‘Shine & Fade’ is an evolution of Saviour’s sound and is an expansion of different themes, exploring heavier, darker and catchier sounds while staying true to Saviour’s roots. Welcoming guitarist Curtis Tunks to the fold in 2019, the other unique inclusion to ‘Shine & Fade’ is the addition of bassist Chris Pearce vocals.

Shine & Fade will be released on April 29th, 2022 via Grayscale Records.

A passionate melodic metal/metalcore display, Saviour ooze authenticity on this new release. Delivering a commanding display of bouncy, heartfelt, and appealing metal music from beginning to end. The first two tracks, the engrossing ‘core’ hit of Younger and the spectacular emotion that runs through Reshape me like a thick vein, are standout stuff.

The likelihood of you not being all in on what Saviour are doing here based off these first two tracks is very low, such is the incredible quality of them.

Yet, it just gets better and better as the unit come out with intense melodic metal power on Racing Home. Before hitting the halfway point of the album with the humongous anthem that is Modern Curse. Another two absolute bangers from this band.

Continuing to blend enlightening and powerful melodies with crushing bouts of metal and wild rock tones, Tidal Wave’s intensity is upped. Followed then by a heart-wrenching example of just how expressive Saviour can be with Black Rosary. The sustained passion and believable eruptions of heaviness endures.

Which means Cynical is another praise-worthy track, as it sees Saviour create a track dripping in atmosphere but also deliver a bout of energetic circle-pit inducing mayhem. Before this album of the year contender closes out with the intense thrill ride that is Wishing Well.

There’s not a single bad track here. Hell, there’s not a single average track. Every single one, completely necessary and beyond listenable. Saviour have delivered here.
