EP Review: Sicksense – Kings Today (Self Released)
Fronted with the dual vocal attack of Killer V (Vicky Psarakis of The Agonist) and Rob The Ripper (Robby J. Fonts of Stuck Mojo), groove metal band Sicksense will release their debut EP ‘Kings Today’ on April 22nd, 2022.
Heavy melodic and groovy metal, Sicksense provide a ton of reasons to get up and move on this debut EP. Five reasons in particular, beginning with the title track that serves as a sharp wake-up call to their stomping groove, melodic highs, nu-metal infusion and ferocious raps. It’s an early bar setter that sets out exactly what Sicksense are capable of and how the two vocal styles work together.
Forgotten Days doubles down on what made the opener such a shock to the system, delivering a particularly strong chorus. Before Make Believe delivers a gargantuan bout of groovy rapping, snarling metal and a spiralling melodic chorus. The balance is near perfect and at no point does boredom set in.
Nor will it set in for the fiery fury and explosive Soul Snatcher, the riffs serrated and once again, the chorus absolutely soaring. That Sicksense have playful moments in this track makes it even more interesting.
Followed by the blistering finale of Heart of Stone. Sicksense doing what all good bands should do on their debut release. Which is leave you wanting more, much more.
