Album Review: Faceless Entity – The Great Anguish of Rapture (Argento Records)
Emerging from the grand nameless void in 2014, Faceless Entity will release their brand-new album ‘The Great Anguish of Rapture’ on April 15th, 2022 via Argento Records.
Five epic tomes of black metal, The Great Anguish of Rapture is mysterious and terrifying evil personified. The crawling chaos that emerges from pits where there is no light to be found. So horrible to see and hear, it drives humanity insane in an instant.
It’s not just black metal that emanates from this foul being though. The despair that the slow and agonising instruments exude shares a lot in common with the likes of funeral doom. Whereas the buzz of corpse-drunk flies has a drone-like quality.
The word that comes to mind as you suffer through this album is methodical. There is a methodical approach to delivering the atrocities that are these five tracks. Less of an enjoyable listening experience and more of just… an experience.
It’s an experience that beats you into submission but one that does so in a more enlightening and daringly sophisticated way. What that means is that Faceless Entity aren’t just hitting things as hard and as heavy as possible. This is a purposeful and time-consuming summoning of unspeakable horrors; there’s no way Faceless Entity could have been anything but extraordinarily prepared.
The end result? Polarising and certainly something you have to be in the right mood for. Feeling bright and sunny today? The Great Anguish of Rapture will turn that mood blacker than the bottomless pit that this music comes from.
