Album Review: Misfire – Sympathy For The Ignorant (MNRK Heavy)
American thrash trio and recent MNRK Heavy signees Misfire will release their Sympathy for The Ignorant debut full-length on the 1st of April 2022.
That’s not a mistake. The date of release. This is a 2022 release. Even if the thrash-attack that Misfire lay out sounds like it came from a few decades before. Take that for what it is. This is an upfront blast of old-school thrash heaviness that will make you gurn, grit your teeth and go searching for that bullet belt you once wore.
Only a fool would complain about the old-school sound this album has, after all, thrash is undying and provided it’s delivered with aplomb, it’s always going to drive a wild bout of head-banging. Which is exactly what we get with Sympathy for the Ignorant. Ten tracks of frantic and furious heavy head-bangers that sneers at the idea of any other kind of metal music. Thrash is what thrash does and this is a great modern example of it.
Highlights? The bone-crunching opening track that is Fractured. With its drawn-out intro that focuses on building up the thrashy goodness before unleashing pandemonium. The classic ‘Slayer-esqe’ Skin of Mirrors that spits fire, the brash and in your face heaviness of No Offense, and the blistering, scorching and circle-pit behemoth that is R.I.P.
That’s just a handful, but be assured that every track on this album dishes out a beating. Regardless of the decades, thrash continues to hit hard and Misfire just happen to put a piece of glass between their knuckles before delivering their blows.
