EP Review: Zwaard – Bloed en Wijn (Argento Records)
From the shadowy shores of the Netherlands, the mysterious entity that goes under the name of Zwaard (Dutch for sword) emerges. Argento Records will release Zwaard’s debut EP ‘Bloed en Wijn’ on March 18th, 2022.
Subterranean black metal, Zwaard offer up 3 tomes of ice-cold and darkness-oozing noise with this debut EP. An EP that slowly but effectively grinds you down, destroying any semblance of resistance and fight in you, until there’s nothing but the cold left.
It’s soul-sucking horror that rhythmically attacks the senses until numbness sets in. The shake-up coming from vocals that howl and roar as though Satan has come to claim you personally.
The ritualistic tempos, old-school bleak frenzies and echoing chants that litter the hellacious and lengthy offerings is enough to make you abandon all hope. When each track comes in at a minimum of 8 minutes, you will.
A debut release to make you hope that god exists.
