Album Review: Blazemth – The Return of Lucifer (Xtreem Music)

Legendary Spanish blackers Blazemth will release their debut album entitled ‘The Return of Lucifer’ for March 15th, 2022. To be released through Xtreem Music on CD, 12″LP, Cassette and Digital formats.

Fans have been waiting a very long time for this debut album. After all, Blazemth rose from the ashes of death metal band, Rotten Flesh in 1993.

The wait is finally over though and Blazemth have made a deal with the devil to unleash this 10-track black metal behemoth. Beginning with a sinister, occultist and chilling intro called Magik Invocation before unleashing the true might of their black metal horror with the title track. A blistering and chaotic battering that will have ‘trve’ fans screeching with hellish delight, yet Blazemth have a dark synergy with melody too.

The next couple of tracks have a common theme (albeit not necessarily intentional) and the underworld is where listeners descend too.

Inferno is an apt title as Blazemth take us down into the depths of Satan’s lair where the heat is simply too much to bear. War is a high tempo crashing and crunching blast of blackened heaviness that conjures up images of hordes marching on humanity. Hecate pays tribute to the chief goddess presiding over magic and spells. The darkness of the underworld deepens with this frenzy of black metal. Before Visions of My Dark Soul erupts like a nasty boil, spewing infectious, heavy pus over everything.

They’ve nailed this debut in regard to blackened intensity and evil tones, with further proof of that coming from In Fight I Die, A Passage of Unlight and The Grummer. The latter is the longest track on the album (and technically the last) but still features Blazemth’s intense ability to play at a constant high tempo. Before the record wraps up as it begun with a short, sinister and chilling Outro.

A debut well worth waiting for.
