EP Review: Jesus Wept – Psychedelic Degeneracy (Redefining Darkness Records)

Hailing from Detroit, Michigan, Jesus Wept play a brand of sleaze-soaked death metal. Their new EP ‘Psychedelic Degeneracy’ is out on March 11th, 2022 via Redefining Darkness Records.

Channelling Heartwork-era Carcass and blending it with the heady sound of 80’s LA metal, Jesus Wept bring groovy death metal to the ears of grateful listeners. From the precise savagery of Surgical Punishment Symmetry to the blistering explosivity of Dispossession. The first two tracks are immense death metal ass-kickers with a ton of groove.

Although the second half certainly isn’t changing that as the title track burns brightly with grim, ferocious, and intense destructibility. Jesus Wept delivering a measured and focused blast of chaotic heaviness. The control this foursome has over their instruments is very impressive.

Which brings us to the end and one last feral slice of groove-intense death metal called God Fetish. If you’ve somehow not lost your mind in a wild bout of head-banging yet, this track will finish the job.
