Album Review: Hegeroth – Sacra Doctrina (Self Released)
Polish black metal band, Hegeroth are back with a brand-new album entitled ‘Sacra Doctrina’. It will be self-released on January 24th, 2022 and available in CD & digital formats.
We’ve been enjoying the second wave of black metal sound that Hegeroth draw from. Their third album, Perfidia was a bit of a banger and this new release continues that feeling of satisfaction. The two-piece expelling a brash and blistering style of black metal that has a much developed modern heavy metal edge to it.
The simplest way to describe Sacra Doctrina is that it’s far catchier than you could ever expect. Which might sound like nonsense, considering at their core, Hegeroth are expelling demonically driven blackness here, but it will make perfect sense once you press play.
Guitars… it’s the guitars that power this album. A frenzy of powerful and scornful riffing, hooks that embed themselves in deeply and a constant, fast-paced rhythmic scowling. There is very little let-up and even less distractions.
Although to not mention the feral vocal style, so very black metal, and ferocious drumming would be doing this stellar piece of work an injustice. Combine it all and the bar has been set very high for black metal this year.
A tight and concise listen too, the 7 tracks come in around 34 minutes meaning this really is a blast to the head. Happily though, it’s no brain ache and instead you’re left wanting more so the only thing to do is press play again.
