Christmas Album Review: Robbie Morön – The First Noe (High End Denim Records)
Fresh off the release of Palooka Haymaker, his debut EP, Robbie Morön quickly got back to work for some new tunes that are sure to get even the grumpiest Scrooges into the holiday spirit. Containing 4 previously released songs, a cover, a punk rock parody, and a couple brand spanking new tracks, The First Noe is 22 minutes of punky fun…with a yuletide twist!
Punk, groove and be merry. Robbie Morön has plenty of yuletide cheer to go around with this 8-track festive treat. Kicking off with the foot-tapping and rhythmic Light Em Up, the mix of punk energy, happy and upbeat lyrics, and a ‘chant along’ chorus gets things started off nicely.
Faster and more of a verbal tirade, Where’s the Tylenol? has Robbie Morön’s tongue jammed right in his cheek. As does Santa is Punk Rocker, unsurprisingly a track with an infectiously festive chorus. Before the delightfully mean-spirited Decrease the Surplus Population makes some wink-inducing points. Probably the least festive sounding track on the album though.
Looking for more of that Christmas spirit? A great punk rock version of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas will bring back the cheer. Before hyper silliness is the name of the game with Lick the Pole. Do you dare? You’ve been tripled dared!
Wrapping up with two more upbeat and fun efforts in Go Santa Go and Bob Slays on the Hill. A pair of foot-tappers and head-bangers to enjoy around the Christmas tree this year.
