Christmas Horror Short Review: That’s not Santa (2021)
Talking the gold medal for the shortest Christmas horror short we have ever seen, That’s not Santa is 45 seconds long. It’s also mainly a chance for the creator, DG VFX to show off its work. There’s really nothing to this, so much so that a review almost seems pointless but it’s what we do.
The scene is set nicely as we get some up-close festive shots that include a cracking log fire, a snowman doll and brightly lit Christmas tree.
Someone walks into the shot and puts down a very fantastical looking candle lamp before walking away. Pay attention as the light begins to flicker and a bauble moves on the tree. Something is coming and it’s not Santa.
There’s not a lot to say, the short’s goal of delivering a tight jump scare is effective. It builds up its sense of anticipation well and while the payoff doesn’t look amazing, it’s still got some talent behind it.
If you feel like giving a loved one a fright this Christmas, show them this.
