EP Review: Just Before Dawn – In the Realm of Ash and Sorrow (Raw Skull Recordz)
Old-school death metal 3-piece, Just Before Dawn will release their new EP, In the Realm of Ash and Sorrow on December 18th, 2021 via Raw Skullz Records. The EP features 4 brand new tracks, 1 cover and a tribute to fallen brothers Sven Groß and L.G. Petrov.
A dark, meaty and intense set of tracks. Just Before Dawn are spitting fire on this new EP and that’s before we even get to their impressive cover of Entombed’s Drowned. Tearing through the soft underbelly of anyone foolish enough to press play on this, they hold nothing back with a scornful and guttural assault. One that choses a methodical sharpness over a frenzied blast. It’s the difference between using a chainsaw and an electric carving knife to attack flesh. Both are going to hurt, but one is far slower than the other.
Just Before Dawn don’t just hit hard though… they hit epically hard. Across 4 tracks, some over 5 minutes long and one over 7, they dig deep to bring you death metal in its most primal form. However, they also show just how imposing this music can sound, all while refusing to compromise on viciousness.
A very memorable listen is then capped off with a blistering cover of Entombed’s Drowned. A savage tribute to fallen brothers.
