EP Review: Noxis/Cavern Womb – Communion of Corrupted Minds (Rotted Life)
The latest in a series of split releases on Rotted Life, brings together the clobbering, earth based physicality of Cleveland‘s Noxis with the gelatinous, interdimensional slime of Philadelphia’s newly birthed Cavern Womb.
The split, entitled ‘Communion of Corrupted Minds’ will be released on December 10th, 2021 via Rotted Life.
So, what do these two bands have in common? Aside from them both being on the Rotted Life roster? Well, they both play harsh, filthy and horror-laden death metal. The kind that burrows into you like a tick. Wearing you down, making you feel weak and sick.
Noxis are up first and deliver a cacophony of brutality. A blend of razor sharp riffing, bludgeoning percussion and guttural vocals. Switching tempo from a trudging sludgy sound to hyperactive repugnance in an instant, their three tracks are exhaustingly mind-damaging.
No time to recover though… the tick is still buried in deep and Cavern Womb are about to make things even more infected.
Their three songs are somehow rawer sounding but also so much more ‘devilish’. Maybe it’s the echo on the vocals or wild bouts of instrumentation that flare up constantly but Cavern Womb are so damn evil sounding. They’re also really freaking listenable and while both bands deliver scathing assaults of blackened death metal, it’s fair to say that Cavern Womb come out the stronger for it.
