Album Review: For Lack of a Term – Welcome To Your New Normal (Self Released)

Hailing from the budding music scene of Yonkers, NY, For Lack of a Term is an alternative punk rock four-piece known around town and beyond for their unique live sound and energetic performances. For Lack of a Term is now dropping their debut LP, Welcome to Your New Normal, available on all streaming platforms on December 7th, 2021.

The awesome vocals of Lauren West are what greets on opener Dirty Laundry. A track with familiar punk rock rhythm and energy. A very catchy set of riffs and twinkly melodies make this a very cool start.

It just gets better and better with the foot-tapping melodrama of Forward and the following upbeat Good Day Café. The punk rock sound of For Lack of a Better Term may not be that unique but it sure is enjoyable to hear.

Plenty of energy, plenty of good-time rockiness, plenty of morose melody and plenty of reasons to move your body. Reasons like Always Something, Gravity Failing, Rock-Bottom and Scrap-Man. Tracks that just put a big and silly smile on your face.

That ache in your foot and fingers? That’s come from the constant foot-tapping and finger drumming you’re doing completely unaware. Such is the infectious nature of this record. Infectious but satisfying, like itching a scab that is ready to come off. Another Place, Another Time has a bit more fire in the belly vocally and Jawbreakers is wonderfully sweet and melodic.

Grooving and moving in great punk-rock terms with one of the album’s best choruses, Happy Hour is another memorable hit. Before I’m Sorry, Did My Back Hurt Your Knife hits hard with the lyrics and background melodies.

The album then wraps up with one last melodramatic effort in the form of Something More Than Human. For Lack of a Term confirming that their punk-rock credentials are not to be questioned. Welcome to Your New Normal is an album to make you feel good but also to reflect and dwell on honest feelings.
