Album Review: Loose Sutures – A Gash with Sharp Teeth and Other Tales (Electric Valley Records)
Electric Valley Records presents heavy fuzz/stoner/garage punk group Loose Sutures’ sophomore LP, A Gash with Sharp Teeth and Other Tales; due out October 15th digitally and on different colored/versions of vinyl: LTD Pink, LTD Side A/B White/Deep Purple, and Ultra LTD “Serpent Edition.”
A bit of a mind-fuck, A Gash with Sharp Teeth and Other Tales has a dark and sexy feel to it. The dirty rhythm, the sleazy riffing and the naughty lyrics makes for something that might make you feel a bit grubby. Especially when Loose Sutures unleash their garage punk sensibilities for something very hot and heavy.
The combination of fuzzy stoner groove and raw, garage punk is quite endearing and Loose Sutures certainly know how to make it fun. Though, that’s not to undersell their musicianship and writing abilities. A Gash with Sharp Teeth and Other Tales is a wild ride that can be called infectious, like a STI.
Whereas a track like Stupid Boy sounds like it belongs in a dingy club where the smell of the bathroom drifts into the beer you’re drinking. A track like Sunny Cola sounds like it should be part of a sexy and dangerous dance in the Titty Twister. How do two tracks like that fit together? That’s Loose Sutures for you.
Hopefully that alone will have got your intrigue up as rest assured A Gash with Sharp Teeth and Other Tales has plenty more going on. The fun comes from finding out. Be brave, be experimental and most importantly, be open-minded.
