Album Review: Dig Lazarus – Don’t Threaten Me With A Good Time (Self Released)

Dig Lazarus are an exciting new rock band from Nuneaton, England. Having met as teenagers, the band quickly gelled and have spent the past few years honing their stoner surf-alternative-rock sound in venues across the UK supporting the likes of The Virginmarys, The Brew, Idlewar, Crobot, Massive Wagons, The Amorettes, as well as a slot at Camden Rocks Festival, and more.

‘Don’t Threaten Me with A Good Time’ is the follow up to Dig Lazarus 2019 EP ‘Figure It Out’, and the culmination of nearly 10 years of playing and writing music together. It will be released on October 15th, 2021.

A ton of fun to listen too, Don’t Threaten Me with A Good Time is going to make one hell of a splash when it lands. The short intro of Sermon sets the scene but Road Runner’s energetic alt-rock bounce is what really gets the pulse quickening. Fight it all you want; you’ll end up giving yourself over the bouncy rock groove.

The hot start continues into Never Change and Tell Me Why. The former has a sleazier rhythm to it but is still so damn danceable while the latter is a modern rock and roll anthem. Dig Lazarus showing in just a handful of tracks just why they’re taking the country by storm.

Want more smile-inducing, exciting and catchy alt-rock tunes? Fear not, Dig Lazarus have plenty in the tank. Satisfied, Dexter, DTMWAGT, Feel and Joker making up the middle portion of the album. Enthusiastically capable of keeping their style of rock interesting and relatable, there’s no arguing with the quality of this record.

…but it’s still not done yet!

The final portion of the album sees the unit bring sold-gold riffs on Keep it Clean, a pinch of chill on Sky Tonight, a bucket load of dirtier groove on Outlaw and a slow, dusty stoner-tinged finale with Time Froze. Even more quality rock to enjoy.

If you’ve not been paying attention to Dig Lazarus, now’s the time.
