Best Horror Movie Franchises

The world of film is wonderful. It is amazing how much actors’ performances and directors’ screenplays can engross an audience member. For the best part of 2 hours, film fans get completely captivated by fictional characters and made-up scenarios. But part of the joy of film is seeing what twists and turns, laughs, or tears that the movies can deliver. This is why there are just so many genres of movies in the modern-day. From rom-coms to thrillers, your mood often depends on your viewing preference.

One genre that has become increasingly popular over recent decades is horror. People worldwide just love to sit down and endure jump scares and tension for a long period. Although there have been some really bad horror films made, there are some masterpieces in there too. Just like other film genres, horror movies have a lot of franchises to their name. In the horror genre, these franchises usually follow the same protagonist or antagonist in the films. But what are the best ones around? Here is a list of the best horror movie franchises.

Saw

If you are a fan of gambling, there is probably a good chance you’ll like the Saw franchise. Of course, you can still enjoy the best online slots in peace and harmony, but if you want to watch more extreme games of chance, check out the Saw movies. With 9 installments, the film franchise follows the theme of people paying for their sins. When being captured and placed into deathly games, the victims must decide what they are willing to sacrifice to save their life. As the franchise goes on, the games become more sinister and bloody. These slasher films are certainly not for the faint-hearted.

Paranormal Activity

The Paranormal Activity franchise really made a huge impact on the world of horror. It was the first franchise to really nail the found footage niche. The films are solely recorded on security cameras and camcorders held by the characters. This gives the film an eerie and realistic sense. This is good, considering many of the films are based on true events.

Insidious

Many consider the Insidious movies to be some of the best of the genre. The movies follow different characters through their paranormal experiences as they try to fight for their lives with four installments. The film is one of the most suspenseful you’ll watch, with some of the best jump scares in the game.

The Conjuring

Saw and Insidious director James Wan really has defined the era of modern horror. His most popular releases, however, have been the Conjuring films. They are accompanied in the franchise by other films such as the Annabelle releases, The Nun, and The Curse of La Llorona. The films follow similar characters and spirits in some of the most terrifying horror films to date. The most recent release was The Conjuring 3, which hit theatres in 2021.   There are set to be at least a further two additions to the franchise.
