I have been asked to write a few paragraphs about my favourite video game. This, however, is a truly daunting task. There are so many games, and so many great games; how can I choose but one? I have decided, as seems my way, to step outside of this and choose my favourite video game system instead.

As stated above about the variety of games, there are oh so many gaming systems out there too. I am a big fan of turn-based RPGs, but do play all manner of games. (I’m not so good at the big online run-around shoot people games or many of the sports and racing games.) Choosing a system is an incredible task, and, as an RPG fan, the choices may seem a bit obvious. However, I have decided not to chase the best RPG console out there, yet find myself, in the juggle of my mind returning tyme and agayne to olde reliable; the Atari 2600. You are right, no RPGs there and an entirely different gaming experience than where my previous words may have been leading. It will make sense in the next paragraph, honest.

There is something timeless about the Atari 2600. Yes, it does have that nostalgia to it, as it was my first introduction to video games way back in 1980-something. I chose this as a favourite console because no matter what I collect, no matter how amazing the graphics, or soundtracks become, I find myself time and agene, returning to that olde Atari. Be it in-between other games, or just a few dedicated nyghts of trying to beat my own high score, there is some strange satisfaction to it. One doesn’t need to find the next savepoint or wait for anything to load up (unless it’s Video Chess).

I have made the Atari think long and hard about it’s next moves). It’s simple, yet challenging. Simple can be a good retreat as the world becomes increasingly more complicated. Amoung the classics that I am bopping betwixt now are Yar’s Revenge, Galaxian, Video Pinball, and Video Chess.

I have my 2600 hooked up to a little black and white television huddled in the corner of a room. It’s a comforting little place, with animal skins and cups of tea. There is also a strange meditation to the Atari, case-in-point, I waes recently playing Galaxian and to my amazement found that I had zoned out, successfully navigating the games whilst my mind thought on two separate topics at the same tyme. Oft it turns to reaction as the mind wanders. This can be dangerous, but can also be liberating. The Atari 2600 is a true classic, and a wood-grained gem. Maybe these few paragraphs will inspire some to dust off that olde Atari. I think you should, but can you beat my highscore?
