EP Review: Vriess – Vriess (XENOKORP Militia Series)
The Xenocorp Militia Series presents the France Thrash/Death metaller’s Vriess’ debut Self-titled EP. Due for release on August 6th, 2021.
Named after the Alien IV character, Vriess is the contaminated child of the 2020 pandemic formed by Project for Bastards members Greg and Chris. The band’s self-titled debut, features none other than drummer extraordinaire Kévin Paradis (Benighted, Mithridatic) behind the kit and mesmerizing bassist Linus Klausenitzer (Alkaloid, ex-Obscura), completing the line-up.
5 tracks, 5 chapters from the French underground of thrash and death metal, Vriess’ debut EP is one to take notice of. Especially as these noise mongers balance the death part and thrash parts of their sound perfectly – neither one thing or the other – but undeniably heavy.
Smashing and crashing throughout, the tempo is fiery and the instrumentation is furious. Then we have the vocals. Which sound as though vocal cords are being ripped and torn through sheer exertion. They add so much savagery to an already damn savage sound.
We have a stellar debut here.
