Album Review: Death Tribe – Beyond The Red Light District: A Canal Experiment (Blood Blast)
Beyond The Red Light District: A Canal Experiment is the second album from Death Tribe, the project founded up by award winning Kaoteon guitarist Anthony Assaker.
Beyond the Red Light District: A Canal Experiment is a statement against all that is wrong in the world today. Everything that is pushed down our throats as we lost our tenure and are blinded by fear and manipulated knowledge – the worst kind of ignorance. All music, lyrics, guitars and concept by Anthony. Other musicians include and not limited to: Baard Kolstad (Leprous) – Drums, Linus Klausenitzer (Obsidious): Bass and Chris Baum (Bent Knee) (violin).
The album is also the soundtrack to a fully animated movie, which is a stunning visual expression of the music.
Anthony comments:
Music is not only about creating angry music but it is as well about the message behind the music. I want to create music with purpose to impact the listener and build awareness about what is wrong in this world. I want the listener to think about their daily choices that are leading humanity to its own demise. We need to stop blaming the world for our own mistakes. We are the world, we have the right to vote, the right to act, the right to raise awareness in many parts of the world and if we want a better world, we need to stop choosing what is right for our best interest and do what is best for everyone. From speaking up and supporting black communities, to LGBTQ+ communities, to supporting women rights and talking about oppressed nations from Colombia to Palestine just as much as I speak up about the suppression of the Lebanese people by their own government. We cannot choose when to call something right and wrong and this is what the 2nd album is all about – This is a wakeup call to the world to realize that we need to change faster than ever before.
A strong statement; portrayed through hard-hitting heavy metal energy, death metal fury and hard rocking grooviness. Beyond the Red Light District: A Canal Experiment is an unforgettable slab of noise that shows of the wide array of ideas that exist inside the head of Anthony Assaker.
Perhaps the biggest take away from the album is how much passion is behind it and early on that comes bubbling to the surface on Thawra. The desperation and fury that exists in the vocals plays off the strong middle-eastern instrumentation to great effect.
The furiously heavy but focused quality continues into Schavuit before Let There Be No Man showcases a blistering speed and spitfire style of vocals. Whereas Making A Murderer has an epic feel while still being as extreme as anything that came before.
Slower and darker but with that familiar style of dirty rock and metal groove, Crematorium has impactful lyrical content sung with a gruffness that makes each word stand out. The World Is Sick and Dying is a hard-hitting mix of death metal and Death Tribe’s penchant for grandiose instrumentation. Before this powerful album ends with some of the most head-banging inducing riffs as the incredible finale of We Are Death Tribe rings out.
Indeed they are.
