Album Review: Inhuman Architects – Paradoxus (Vicious Instinct Records)

Formed in 2020 by Fábio Infante (vocals) and Fábio Azevedo (guitars), Inhuman Architects is a deathcore band from Portugal. The duo was later joined by Marcus Reis, Luis Almeida, and Emanuel Carmo and soon entered the recording studio to track their first song ‘Interplanetary Suffering’, released as a digital single and music video.

The song was extremely well received in the underground scene and attracted the attention of several record labels, eventually leading to a deal with Australia’s Vicious Instinct Records. Now a revamped line-up with Fábio Infante on vocals, Fábio Azevedo on guitar, Marcus Reis on drums and Susana Gamito on bass, offers up a lethal and brutal slab of deathcore in the form of their debut album, Paradoxus. Due to be released on the 16th July 2021 via Vicious Instinct Records.

Heavy is as heavy does. Let’s be honest, aggression and brutality aren’t quite what they used to be. The limit has been pushed and now it’s about how bristling savagery can be turned into something more then just heavy for heavies sake. How do you retain blistering viciousness while also have rhythm, groove and depth? You have to be something pretty special. Even more so when it’s a full album’s worth.

Are Inhuman Architects a special band? At times, they prove to be as they liberally spray their extreme metal talent into hungry ears. The likes of Behold the Creator, Defying the Gods, Interplanetary Suffering, The Great Deceiver and Night Intruders are great examples of the core ferociousness. They showcase chainsaw-style riffs, guitar flair, booming bass and drums, and a vocal style that is ripped straight from the throat of Satan. Devastating noise that leaves the legs feeling like jelly and the mind fractured.

There is no escaping the consistently intense extreme sound of this album but it’s not what will be remembered come the end. No, what will be remembered is Inhuman Architects aptitude to turn heaving heaviness into daring catchy groove. To turn unrelenting barbarism into rhythmic head-bangers and to turn an overly familiar sound into something fresh.

You can enjoy Paradoxus for its core brutality but you can also enjoy it for the layers that give it so much more depth. Lose your mind to the heaviness but stay for the intricates.
