Album Review: Sepiroth – Condemned To Suffer (Petrichor)

Sepiroth is a brutal old-school death metal band from Sliedrecht, the Netherlands. The band was founded in 2003 by drummer Damiën and guitarist Chris. In 2007 the band released their first 3-track EP: ‘Dying For Hatred’ followed in 2011 by their first full length ‘Breaking The Codes Of Silence’. In 2015 the band released their second full length album ‘Uninvolved’.

The album was a concept about the UN forces witnessing the horrors of the civil war in former Yugoslavia. In 2020 Sepiroth signed a deal with Petrichor for the release of their third full length ‘Condemned To Suffer’. It will see the light on the 11th June 2021.

Head-smashing, bone-crushing and gut-spilling stuff. Sepiroth’s new album Condemned to Suffer can be summed up very simply. It’s brutal death metal. Nothing more, nothing less. Just 10-tracks of ‘in your face’ ferocity spat out by a band with face-melting tendencies as part of their make-up.

Chances are you’ll already have made up your mind if this is your jam or not. After all, it’s geared towards the extreme and it’s as high quality as you’re going to get in this specific metal genre. It’s exactly what it should be but that doesn’t mean it’s formulaic or lacking inspiration. After all, this is not Sepiroth’s first rodeo and they are filled with a vehemence that makes the experience all the more intense.

This is a band that knows heavy and knows that words like; blistering, snarling, guttural, sickening, savage and more, were created with them in mind. They all apply here and the constant collision of instruments makes each track feel like a war. Yet, for all the noise, it’s more than listenable provided you can keep up with their constant aggressive speed.

No surprises and no messing around. Sepiroth simply dish out a 10-track death metal lesson. It’s up to you, if you hear it as a punishment.
