Band Interview: WinterBeach
Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life are pleased to bring you an interview with dark-synth trio, WinterBeach.
How did you get started as a band?
Tiam: After trying out all possible styles of music in other bands, we just got a vision to form a 100% synthetic band! Synthesizers only – no guitars or bass guitars, but at the same time make songs forged over the classic pop-rock formula.
How would you describe your sound?
Tiam: I guess we’re sounding something like Muse without guitars, Depeche Mode with pop refrains and Keane after electroshock treatment!
What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
Tiam: Angel, Baz and I have very different musical sources of inspiration. We can be inspired by everything from classical music to black metal. From discopop to indie rock. Strictly speaking we are influenced and inspired by a whole bunch of artists from the 60’s until 2021. But our heart is probably rooted in the 80’s, then primed and sharpened by the decades after. We also like to stay up to date on music coming out in 2025 too!
Baz: I’m inspired by pop and rock. Mostly from the 80’s, but I also love many of today’s bands and artists.
Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?
Tiam: Both! It’s much easier to release and distribute music now than when we started playing in bands 20 years ago. At the same time, the competition is also much tougher now. Previously, the music counted 80% and promotion 20%. Now it is the opposite.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
Tiam: I love cottage gardening, running in the wild Norwegian mountains or taking photos and writing texts for my Instagram.
Baz: I love skiing in the winter and boating in the summer. Also like to play football with my kids.
What are your future plans musically? Tours?
Tiam: Well our plan is to write a couple of mega-giga-super-hits before the summer 😊. We also have a fragile hope that it will be possible to do concerts again very soon! But we have not booked anything yet, as everything still seems unclear in the wake of Corona … So … get in touch! Book us!
Baz: It’s going to be fun playing concerts again, looking forward to the corona pandemic is over.
