13 Days of Halloween Horror Interview: Anthony Morris (Recall the Remains)

As part of 2019’s 13 Days of Halloween, we here at Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life thought it would be fun to see if some of the bands and artists we love had any interest in horror. It turns out quite a lot do so we turned it into an interview.

1. First things first…introduce yourself please!

My name is Anthony Morris I play drums in UK Metal band Recall The Remains and I’m a huge fan of horror films particular slasher movies.

2. What are your top 3 favourite horror movies and why?

Wes Craven’s Scream because it completely changed the slasher genre and is a fantastic whodunnit.

Jason X because that liquid nitrogen kill is too damn good to ignore.

Final Destination 2 because the kills in the movie are incredible spectacles and I’ll never get the image of that giant log going through the police officers car and smashing through the back of his head out of my head. It’s gruesome stuff and I love it.

3. Do you remember your first experience with horror? Was it at a young age?

My first experience with horror I’d say was at the age of 9. I accidentally came across Bride of Chucky just at the part where Chucky and Tiff kill the Uncle character by firing nails into his face.

4. What era of horror is your favourite & why?

Favourite era I’d say is 1980s mainly because the Friday 13th series and the Nightmare on Elm street series both started and Freddy and Jason are 2 of my favourite horror icons.

5. What frightens or creeps you out in horror?

The realism and how terrifying some horror films can be. I always go back to that one line in The Strangers where Liv Tyler’s character says to the The Strangers “why are you doing this?” and they simply reply with “because you were home”, that shit terrifies me.

6. Who is your horror inspiration? Be it a director/actor/author etc.

Tom Savini. He worked on the Friday 13th Series. His SFX for that time period were seriously impressive and innovative compared to today where its mainly CGI.

7. Do you enjoy modern horror or do you look to the past for your fix?

Not sure as the latest horror film I have seen was the 2018 Halloween reboot/sequel.

8. What horror movie is universally beloved that you just don’t like?

I just can’t get into The Conjuring series or the Paranormal Activity series. Don’t know why they just connect with me at all. Good jump scares and some impressive SFX but sometimes when you over complicate a story it takes you out of it.

9. If you could shoot one horror cliché/trope into the sun to never be used again. What would it be?

Horror movies being gory for the sake of being gory. Oh and shaky cam.

10. Same question but about type/style. What type or style of horror would you happily never watch again?

Paranormal stuff. That shit just doesn’t connect.

11. What gets you excited when watching horror?

The suspense and if it has an amazing story.

12. Have you had any real life scary experiences? We’re talking supernatural or something that can’t be reasonably explained.

Nope!
