Album Review: The Scourge – Warrant for Execution (Seeing Red Records)
Hailing from Houston, TX, The Scourge are re-invigorating Texas thrash with a fresh take on classic Thrash ala Wrathchild America, Rigor Mortis, and Exciter, as well as hints of NWOBHM. Their new album, Warrent for Execution will be released on October 25th 2019 via Seeing Red Records.
Thrashing and thrashing hard, The Scourge bring the pain with an album of intensity and heaviness as only this style of music can do.
It’s not easy to say that The Scourge are doing anything particularly unique or different here but for what is worth, they certainly deliver on the promise of a fast and high-powered release. Simply put, it’s got enough fire and fury to turn heads and get them banging away.
If there is one element of their music that stands out more. it’s the infusion of NWOBHM. Which gives many a track a much more classic metal feel. Rather then just out and out thrash. Its hints rather then posts signs but when it crops up (Death Draws Near Dark, S.O.I) it really lifts things.
Aside from that, the requirement of riffs is well and truly fulfilled. Track after track burning brightly in a field of hyper active rhythm and bountiful hooks. The Scourge are the reapers and their blades are sharpened and ready to cut.
Enjoy it for what it is, a hefty slab of old-school thrash poured through a sieve to leave the best and juiciest parts behind.
